One thing you should know about our family is that One thing you should know about our family is that we are HUGE UNC fans! Mike went to graduate school there and I commuted to Chapel Hill just about every weekend for two years from my consulting job. You can’t spend any time in Chapel HIll and not become a devoted basketball fan! 🏀And naturally, we have raised our kids to bleed Carolina blue: they’ve always worn the gear, watched all the basketball games, fly the flag on game day, and have made multiple trips across the country to visit the campus. In 2016, we decided to follow the team to Maui for the Maui Invitational. 🌺🌴The tournament is held over Thanksgiving week every year in Lahaina, but UNC attends only every 4th year. That year, UNC won the entire tournament and we were there for every game! It was an amazing way to kick off the college basketball season. We decided from that point on, we would spend every 4th Thanksgiving on Maui cheering for the Tar Heels. 2020 is the year we were supposed to go back to Maui. The tournament wasn’t canceled, but it was moved to Asheville, NC and we decided not to go. It’s a bummer to miss out this year, but we’ll be cheering them on from home with our flag flying proud. Go Heels! Maui 2024!🌈

AD | Got the pool to ourselves 🙌💦 #winningat AD | Got the pool to ourselves 🙌💦 #winningatlife It's so easy to get carried away and try and cram as many activities as possible into our stay here, but we hope to be travelling all summer and we've learned from previous travels that chill days are important. So today we mostly hung out at our campsite - lots of pool action, reading, and kids club - then we took the bikes into the village for ice-cream. It's only 1km into Le Bourg-d'Oisans and there are lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from, and cyclists everywhere! It’s not everyday you find a Tyrannosaurus Rex i It’s not everyday you find a Tyrannosaurus Rex in the middle of the woods! 🦖⠀ And, it’s even more surprising when those woods are in the middle of nowhere Alabama! 🤯⠀ ⠀ I thought I’d go through our past trips, State by State, and share our favorite spots and tips for visiting for when all of this virus stuff is over. ⠀ ⠀ So mind as well start at the beginning of the alphabet... First up, Alabama! ⠀ ⠀ Awesome road side attractions are essential for any great road trip, ESPECIALLY with kids, and the Dinosaurs in the Woods in Elberta, Alabama are a must stop. ⠀ Who would have guessed you could find T-Rex and three of his friends hanging out down there?? ⠀ When we heard about them, we knew we had to check it out while on our Spring Break Road Trip of 2019.⠀ Check out our stories for more pics and see who else we found. ⠀ Hint: 🦕 ⠀ ⠀ ✨How to find the Dinosaurs in the Woods...⠀ Address: Barber Parkway, Elberta, Alabama⠀ ⠀ 1. Drive US Hwy 98 either eight miles east of Foley, AL, or 21 miles west of downtown Pensacola, FL. ⠀ ⠀ 2. Turn south onto County Rd 95. Drive five miles. ⠀ ⠀ 3. Turn right onto Fish Trap Rd. Drive a half-mile. ⠀ ⠀ 4. Turn left at the Barber Marina sign. We try to teach Eloise the importance of small act We try to teach Eloise the importance of small acts of kindness and how they go along way. It was amazing for her to see us on the receiving end of abundant honesty and good will. As I mentioned, when we arrived to Panama City Panama I realized my wallet was gone. We searched high and low, and thought it fell out in the customs conveyor belt. We knew there was a chance it could have fallen out in the cab, but less likely, plus we paid in cash and didn’t have the name of the cab company to reach out. The next morning I received a call that my taxi driver was waiting downstairs and had my wallet. He obviously knew where he dropped us off, and waited 40 mins downstairs (they had to contact our host and then me) until he could personally hand deliver it to me. I was floored by his kindness, he had nothing to gain by returning my wallet. Yes, it is the right thing to do, but he could have just as easily turned it into his company and let me worry about it instead of going on a wild goose chase to get it back to me! It was so kind and reminded me that there are truly selfless people, kind, good hearted people out there! ❤️❤️❤️ PS: ironic side note- yesterday we got in a Uber and hidden in the side door I found another passengers wallet and made sure the Uber driver had it to return to them! 1-what goes around comes around! 2-we all need to do a better job taking care of our sh*t! 🤪

I cried after taking this picture. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ T I cried after taking this picture. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ The lockdown in Germany from November, 2020 through May, 2021, was so hard. And while we made the best of it, we still missed out on so much. ⁠⁠ The urge to pack up a bag and stay somewhere—anywhere—had me jumping out of my skin. ⁠⁠ So the second we could, we got the heck out of town for a quick overnight stay just north of us in Münster, Germany.⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ It was just me and the kids—coincidentally, the day the restrictions lifted, my husband went away to do military stuff. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ Our trip wasn't somewhere super exciting, and we didn't have any hard plans. We met up with some (new to us friends), walked around a new city, stayed at a really cool Airbnb, and the kids had the best time. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ I cried after this picture, because as I was taking it, the AirBnb owner poured me a glass of wine and started chatting with me like I was her oldest friend. The kids were having the time of their lives playing, and I remember exhaling those long seven months and finally relaxing a little bit. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ After so many days of mundane isolation, it was incredibly emotional to feel free again.⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ I'm sharing more about our short trip to Münster (including this amazing AirBnb that we stayed at) on the blog. He received an amazing school report which not only praised his accelerated academic progress this year but more importantly to us, celebrated his increase in resilience and confidence. He then turned 9 and was able to celebrate with his fab group of friends. And to top it off, within half an hour of finishing the school year, we’d packed the car up and driven six hours down to Cornwall! We’ve had a slow start to the holiday exploring our local beach and the nearest town. Unfortunately I’m not feeling 100% which is a rubbish way to start our holiday but I’m keeping everything crossed that after a good night’s sleep, I’ll be firing on all cylinders for a fun day out tomorrow. Into the top 5 of my daughter's top 10 destination Into the top 5 of my daughter's top 10 destinations visited and it's wonderful Oman - we spent a week here a few years ago, although we packed it full and were both won over by the country. The highlight for us both? The desert. 🐪 'I remember climbing up gigantic sand dunes to see the most amazing sunset ever (the long climb was worth it)' according to m 8yo. Which is pretty much my memory too. That and the silence, the dunes stretching off in every direction and endless, countless shades of gold, orange, burned, molten caramel. 🐪 It was tough to pick one highlight, given that we saw dolphins in the sea off Muscat, watched a turtle laying eggs in the night and a baby hatching, soaked up the views across a canyon and discovered an oasis in the dry stony mountains. Just to name a few... 🧡🧡🧡

Hands up if you love a model village 🙋🏼‍♀️? I don’t know what it is about them but I find them so charming and they transport you into such an idyllic way of living. bekonscotofficial certainly stole one of the top spots of a local (ish) day out for us. You could easily spend a couple of hours there wandering through the different scenes and spotting the meticulous attention to detail and a ride on the miniature train is an absolute must 🚂. It was a perfect evening. # Wendy was only awake for the entree. Since the restaurant was half empty, she was able to sleep next to Tiernan and me on a bench seat. Then we enjoyed a leisurely drink and dessert on this amazing rooftop with friends. No one had to sacrifice their night to sit in the room with the baby (hotel baby sitters aren’t for us). # I remember being so worried she wasn’t warm enough, but really she did not need this jumper in March in Córdoba 😅Basically the epitome of a first time parent...

I really cannot express enough how good it feels f I really cannot express enough how good it feels for us to be travelling again. Every day I have a heart warming moment to remind me how lucky we are. Its not just the incredible scenery, the sunshine, and the wine (though that's all very fabulous)... Last night, Arthur was playing football with a bunch of other kids from the campsite until 10pm. It was wonderful to see him making friends with Dutch and French kids (there aren't any other British families here). Then at dinner last night, the boys were practicing their French with the waitress. I couldn't help but think back to those online French classes they did through school during lockdown. And Ez's swimming has improved more this past week, than it has in the past 18 months of irregular weekly swim classes due to lockdowns. There is so much uncertainty with travel still, but we're so pleased we took the leap of faith and jumped on that ferry last week. We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days of travel, three kids and about 33 pieces of luggage later we are ready to begin our new life here in Aberdeen...after our quarantine stint;) • We left here for France as newlyweds almost 13 years ago, just the two of us. With minimal luggage, no expectations and no clue where it would all lead. From France we moved to Norway, Texas and Saudi collecting fridge magnets and babies along the way! • Now we are back with much more luggage, 3 extra humans and still no clue where it will all lead! There’s so much to think about and organize but for now I’m enjoying the little things...fresh air when I open a window, filing the kettle from the sink, hanging the washing outside and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge (sorry Saudi chums 😳)! • We don’t know if that’s the end of our time living abroad, but for now this is home and for the kids this is “abroad” because they’ve never lived here! Everything is exciting for them and seeing it through their eyes, I’m realizing how much we took for granted before. We can’t wait to go looking for a family home, get out exploring and meet up with friends and family!! We have gone from mostly family and close friends We have gone from mostly family and close friends that followed us to a lot more beautiful faces. We realize you don’t really know us like they would. So we wanted to welcome you into these squares and get to know us better. We thought it would be fun to introduce ourselves and share some funny, corky things about us. So here it goes.... If you don’t already know I am Mary. The wife, mom, cook, cleaner, homeschool teacher, nurse you know all those things. I am the main voice behind these squares. And It’s my pleasure to share our journey with you. I love Jesus!! I talk in my sleep. I walk in my sleep. I love the smell of plastic ( remember the hello kitty store? It smelled so good.) Don’t judge me. I know it’s all chemicals. 😂 I like things clean and put away. I can’t focus with clutter. I eat cereal with no milk. I love chocolate ice cream with peanut butter but not a fan of peanut butter. I am normally platinum blonde but haven’t had my hair done in a year and a half. #roadlife I miss my garden and chickens. I also miss having horses and riding. I can’t stand the sounds people make when they eat. I love people and being with people but I equal love my alone time and being just with my family. I really love the beach but I also love the mountains. I love my quit time with the Lord in the morning and then working out with my girls. I love popping pimples. ( I am a licensed aesthetician) But I can’t stand blood or needles. I am passionate about natural health and wellness. I love sharing my love for cooking with others. And I genuinely love helping others. This journey has been a dream of mine for many years but like most dreams I thought it would never come true. I was to sick and financially we weren’t in a place it was even possible. So I am incredibly thankful and blessed to be here!! Now it’s your turn!! What’s a fun or corky fact about?
