He received an amazing school report which not only praised his accelerated academic progress this year but more importantly to us, celebrated his increase in resilience and confidence. He then turned 9 and was able to celebrate with his fab group of friends. And to top it off, within half an hour of finishing the school year, we’d packed the car up and driven six hours down to Cornwall! We’ve had a slow start to the holiday exploring our local beach and the nearest town. Unfortunately I’m not feeling 100% which is a rubbish way to start our holiday but I’m keeping everything crossed that after a good night’s sleep, I’ll be firing on all cylinders for a fun day out tomorrow. We are on the second day of lockdown in Nepal. We We are on the second day of lockdown in Nepal. We were thinking about staying here then, before we knew it, the country was on lockdown and all flights were suspended so the decision was taken out of our hands. I feel good about being here. We are in a very welcoming, family run hotel who have said they will look after us for as long as we are here. They cook for us, we have a balcony, a roof terrace and a small garden, we can leave to get food and medicine and we have Internet, phew! One of the biggest reasons I’m happy we’re here is that it’s not that much of a change for Honor. Yes, she knows we can’t go out for walks or play dates (there is another British family with two boys Honor’s age riding this thing out in a hotel over the road from us), but being together as a family of three, living in a small space, in a hotel, FaceTiming grandma and grandad and homeschooling are very normal to her. I couldn’t imagine the heart ache she would have experienced if we had returned to the UK and then had to tell her she couldn’t see anyone or play with her friends. "Following your french holiday adventure is like w "Following your french holiday adventure is like watching Ross and Rachel....will they / won't they....ahhh the suspense!!" 🤣 A message from one of my oldest mates yesterday. Made me giggle. From the school bubble bursting to the rule changes with travel, last week was quite a week! 😱 As it stands, we are still hoping to travel to France 🤞. Even though both us parents are double jabbed, we'll now have to quarantine at home on return under the new #amberplus rules (does anyone know what the colour is between amber and red?! 🤔🤦). Quarantine is doable for us as we both work remotely, although we're keeping plans flexible as rules can change at the drop of a hat. But another change is that we no longer need to do a PCR or antigen to get into France now. This takes the pressure off, but we'll still do our own personal lateral flow tests before we go for peace of mind. How's everyone else's summer travel plans coming along? We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days of travel, three kids and about 33 pieces of luggage later we are ready to begin our new life here in Aberdeen...after our quarantine stint;) • We left here for France as newlyweds almost 13 years ago, just the two of us. With minimal luggage, no expectations and no clue where it would all lead. From France we moved to Norway, Texas and Saudi collecting fridge magnets and babies along the way! • Now we are back with much more luggage, 3 extra humans and still no clue where it will all lead! There’s so much to think about and organize but for now I’m enjoying the little things...fresh air when I open a window, filing the kettle from the sink, hanging the washing outside and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge (sorry Saudi chums 😳)! • We don’t know if that’s the end of our time living abroad, but for now this is home and for the kids this is “abroad” because they’ve never lived here! Everything is exciting for them and seeing it through their eyes, I’m realizing how much we took for granted before. We can’t wait to go looking for a family home, get out exploring and meet up with friends and family!! “Collect moments, not things.” I have this quo “Collect moments, not things.” I have this quote sitting on my desk on a beautiful wooden plaque that my late husband and I picked up on one of our trips to Key West. It is such a great reminder to make moments. . Since the new moon last week, I’ve felt some shifts…creative energy shifts. It reminded me I am in control of my life. I can turn dreams into realities. So I started thinking about what I wanted for the remainder of this year. I mean, its been a crap shoot of a year so far, am I right? I wanted to be specific about my intentions and make them really freaking awesome. . I decided I wanted to adventure more. I love camping, being outside, hiking, watching the sunset, sitting my a fire, waking up and having a cup of hot coffee outside. I try to incorporate all of this in our lives at home, but some times you just need a chance of scenery. . I’ve started researching bigger cars, ones that can tow a small trailer. Trailer with a bathroom, heat and air conditioning are a must. I know, I’m more of a glamper than a camper, but if mama ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy. lol. I own it. I’m ok with that. 😉 . So as I plan out our fall and maybe even winter activities, I’m curious to know where are your favorite places to visit? Northeast, down south, out west, doesn’t matter..What we don’t get to this fall, we’ll plan for next year. I’m thinking a National Park trip in the next year or so..🏕 . So take a second to daydream or reminisce. Where would you go if you could go anywhere in the states or Canada. Lakeside? Beaches? Mountains? I'm always going on about how fantastic Namibia is I'm always going on about how fantastic Namibia is for families. We absolutely LOVED this off the beaten path adven We absolutely LOVED this off the beaten path adventure in visiting the mouth of the centina river. The blue hole also nicknamed the dragons eye is over 490 feet deep and is intriguingly beautiful, but also slightly eerie.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ We tried to visit a few week prior and ended up at the actual river which was also so special, but not our desired destination, so making it here was a dream!⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Postscript: If you zoom in this image it is true my daughter does not have pants on. Lets "say" this is due to her playing in the water, and definitely NOT because she tried to potty in the bushes, by herself, and pissed all over her shorts! 👍🏻

That time we went hiking in the Nepalese Himalayas That time we went hiking in the Nepalese Himalayas when the boys were just 2 and 4 years old 💚🇳🇵⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ One of my coping mechanisms through lockdown was not to think about our travels, both past and future. I somehow managed to switch the tap off and lived each day as it came. It was totally unnatural to me, but for many weeks this worked. We only allowed ourselves to watch #racearoundtheworld last week 😂⁣ Anyone else?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ But with borders opening and lockdown gradually easing, that tap has been burst open and our minds are in overdrive. For the past weeks we've been bouncing ideas around like a frantic pinball 🤯🤯🤯🤯, but the uncertainty of everything leads to a lack of commitment, which leads to frustration... and we tell ourselves we just need to be patient 🧘‍♀️⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Slowly but surely though, a new plan is forming... and I can almost see that open road...⁣ 🤞⁣

Which is wonderful. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But we are also possibly, ironically, the generation with the least proportion of our lives focussed on preparing to be parents. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The rule of thumb, the advice seemed to be universally: "don't get pregnant, young". Or "don't get someone pregnant". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That hardly calibrates your internal expectations, or hints at the skiis needed for one of the most important collective responsibilities or necessities of a biological population, let alone what is required of an advanced civilization. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whether you're raising young men, or young women, good luck to all the parents our there. No matter the parents you are, or that you've had, know that it isn't where you start that counts, but where you get to that is important-- and that life long learning is the most rewarding journey.

We try to teach Eloise the importance of small act We try to teach Eloise the importance of small acts of kindness and how they go along way. It was amazing for her to see us on the receiving end of abundant honesty and good will. As I mentioned, when we arrived to Panama City Panama I realized my wallet was gone. We searched high and low, and thought it fell out in the customs conveyor belt. We knew there was a chance it could have fallen out in the cab, but less likely, plus we paid in cash and didn’t have the name of the cab company to reach out. The next morning I received a call that my taxi driver was waiting downstairs and had my wallet. He obviously knew where he dropped us off, and waited 40 mins downstairs (they had to contact our host and then me) until he could personally hand deliver it to me. I was floored by his kindness, he had nothing to gain by returning my wallet. Yes, it is the right thing to do, but he could have just as easily turned it into his company and let me worry about it instead of going on a wild goose chase to get it back to me! It was so kind and reminded me that there are truly selfless people, kind, good hearted people out there! ❤️❤️❤️ PS: ironic side note- yesterday we got in a Uber and hidden in the side door I found another passengers wallet and made sure the Uber driver had it to return to them! 1-what goes around comes around! 2-we all need to do a better job taking care of our sh*t! 🤪

Here’s some info I read on chinahighlights if anyone’s interested... The Ancient Tea Horse Road (in China) was a trade route mainly through Yunnan, Sichuan, and Tibet. From the 6th century to the 20th century, people in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces traveled by foot and horseback with pack horses to exchange tea for horses with people in Tibet - and thus the pathway was called the Tea Horse Road. The Ancient Tea Horse Road was one of the highest and most precipitous ancient roads in the world, which has carried and spread civilization and culture for centuries. The Ancient Tea Horse Road rivaled the Silk Road trade routes for importance, and as the longest ancient trade road in the world, at more than 10,000 kilometers in length, but was certainly toughest to travel. The Tea Horse Road linked Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet, stretched across Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal, and India, and then reached the Middle East, and even the Red Sea coast of Egypt.

Now that I think of it 🧐 Eloise also told the waitress at the farm yesterday that SHE was her best friend.... and she told a neighboring table in Croatia that her cousin Gigi was her bestie... and the Marco from the pool in Costa Rica was her BF....and the boy that kicked her the soccer ball one time in Split... oh and the random sculpture in the center of town....also all her best friends! 🤔 I am beginning to think her and I have different definitions of what best friends means....but WE are the bestest friends!

I headed off to the east coast of Singapore on Thu I headed off to the east coast of Singapore on Thursday to spend some time in the #joochiat area. It’s not the first time I’ve been there, and I hope it won’t be the last! The colours yesterday just POPPED under a very hot sun and a brilliant blue sky. I felt so lucky to be able to get out and explore when so many of our friends and family are under lockdown or snowed in. It’s easy not to do anything (or just not to post about it) because I feel guilty or worry that it will upset people. But the truth is I lived vicariously through everyone travelling last summer and the pictures kept me going. The reason I’m a travel writer is because travelling gives me purpose and without it I feel lost.
