Hello world, long time no talk! #ad . We’ve bee Hello world, long time no talk! #ad . We’ve been taking some time off to rediscover my hometown of Spokane, WA this summer. So many things are keeping us busy these days, and I haven’t done a good job of sharing our explorations with you all! . Back in June, we took some time to walk along the Centennial Trail, a 37 mile paved road that winds through the city. The trail follows the Spokane River, and it’s a great way to get to see some beautiful parts of the city. . But on hot summer days, it can get pretty hot! Using our hoo_rag bandanas are a great way to enjoy the hike while keeping the sweat off our faces. Plus, if you’re like my daughter, it can make you pretty fashionable too! 🤪 . As Michael Franti says, “Bad sh*t happens, but g As Michael Franti says, “Bad sh*t happens, but good sh*t happens too.” . I’ve said this many times before, but 2020 has been just plain awful! Wildfires in Australia (remember that?), a global pandemic, economic recession, the murders of Black Americans, wildfires in western USA, and hurricanes in eastern USA. Can’t we just get a break already? . But within the bad, there are good things too. Families are connecting more, we are caring more about the environment, communities are stepping up to support Black Lives Matter, people are realizing there are ways to work and learn that don’t require being physically locked in one location. . Mind you, I’m not prescribing an “always look on the bright side of things” mentality. That only serves to dismiss the real, actual hurt that people are experiencing. But I am encouraging people to realize that good things do exist, in conjunction with the bad things. . Today, let’s acknowledge the good that came from this year. Let’s (virtually) hug our friends and families and share our gratitude for what this year has brought us. . For our family personally, this year brought us a new business, a new job, and an opportunity to spend time with our extended family, after being away for two years. . What has 2020 brought for you? The highlight of our day but not without a bit of The highlight of our day but not without a bit of effort... We arrived at More London around 12:30pm and it wasn't working. 😬 One of the mums who were around told me that it’s usually closed from 12pm to 2pm! . . The kids disappointment was so big that we decided to wait and hope for the best! Lucky that we usually have some things in the car: mats, colouring book and pens. They managed to entertain themselves in the shade for one hour and a half until the BIG moment. At 2pm on the dot they were back again and it sounded like the beginning of a gig... all the kids who were patiently waiting stood up and ran like crazy towards the fountains! As much as we can, we’ve been trying to get outside and do hiking in our area. Now that the boys are back in school, I'm making a Now that the boys are back in school, I'm making a conscious effort to appreciate the peace and space to myself whilst it lasts. ⁣ ⁣ The old me would have been beavering away at the computer, trying to maximise the work time. But this past week, it's all been about enjoying the slow lane - meeting a friend for brunch, snuggling under my duvet to read a book for an hour or two, or enjoying a walk on my own in the hills. This little girl is growing up so fast! She really This little girl is growing up so fast! She really is a mini me. 😆 . I think one of the silver linings of working remotely and homeschooling is being able to spend time with your family. I think about the hours we used to spend commuting, dropping our kids off at school (or daycare) where they spend the majority of their day with other people. . These past two years, I have had a chance to get to know my kids really well, and see what awesome little humans they are. Yes, balancing it all is hard, but I truly feel like we’re closer as a family now. . Oh how much things can change in the span of a yea Oh how much things can change in the span of a year! . Last year today, we arrived in Amed, on the Indonesian island of Bali, after having spent a month in Yogyakarta, on the island of Java. We were just about to start a month-long meet-up with 30+ other worldschooling families. . To say the month was intense was an understatement. It was non-stop interactions with families, conversing, playing, learning, sharing, and making bonds that are still strong to this day. I was exhausted at the end of it, but looking back now, I realize how many wonderful memories we made during that month. . Though we’re all scattered across the globe now, I am forever grateful to have had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful families. . Today, a meet-up like that would be difficult to do without taking extra precautions. But I hope one day in the future we can do something like that again. . My traveling feet are getting itchy, but I know now is still not the right time to do any big travel for our family. We’re going to keep playing it low key and waiting until this pandemic is over. . We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days We made it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Three days of travel, three kids and about 33 pieces of luggage later we are ready to begin our new life here in Aberdeen...after our quarantine stint;) • We left here for France as newlyweds almost 13 years ago, just the two of us. With minimal luggage, no expectations and no clue where it would all lead. From France we moved to Norway, Texas and Saudi collecting fridge magnets and babies along the way! • Now we are back with much more luggage, 3 extra humans and still no clue where it will all lead! There’s so much to think about and organize but for now I’m enjoying the little things...fresh air when I open a window, filing the kettle from the sink, hanging the washing outside and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge (sorry Saudi chums 😳)! • We don’t know if that’s the end of our time living abroad, but for now this is home and for the kids this is “abroad” because they’ve never lived here! Everything is exciting for them and seeing it through their eyes, I’m realizing how much we took for granted before. We can’t wait to go looking for a family home, get out exploring and meet up with friends and family!! I realised that this is my 100th post 😁 so it o I realised that this is my 100th post 😁 so it only felt right that I post a picture of home, this beautiful place is just opposite our house it's actually an airfield but there hasn't been many planes landing here during the pandemic so we have had some nice walks across to visit the cows It slowly feels that life is returning to normal with the shops reopening today, easyjet starting more flights and more people heading back to work! That time we went hiking in the Nepalese Himalayas That time we went hiking in the Nepalese Himalayas when the boys were just 2 and 4 years old 💚🇳🇵⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ One of my coping mechanisms through lockdown was not to think about our travels, both past and future. I somehow managed to switch the tap off and lived each day as it came. It was totally unnatural to me, but for many weeks this worked. We only allowed ourselves to watch #racearoundtheworld last week 😂⁣ Anyone else?⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ But with borders opening and lockdown gradually easing, that tap has been burst open and our minds are in overdrive. For the past weeks we've been bouncing ideas around like a frantic pinball 🤯🤯🤯🤯, but the uncertainty of everything leads to a lack of commitment, which leads to frustration... and we tell ourselves we just need to be patient 🧘‍♀️⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Slowly but surely though, a new plan is forming... and I can almost see that open road...⁣ 🤞⁣

One thing we know for certain is that we don’t want to stand still anymore. We are prepared to make profound change in 2020 to ensure we are always moving forward. This sunset in Córdoba was one of those moments when we knew travelling with a mini was the life we wanted to lead. What are you doing differently this year?

Trek day 2: On the second day of our trek, Cho gav Trek day 2: On the second day of our trek, Cho gave us the option of either hiking on to the next homestay (which was supposedly even more basic than the place we’d just stayed in) AND a further and more difficult walk than the day before, OR to walk to her village and have lunch at her house. We were so excited about hanging out at her place and meeting her family (we’d even bought her kids some toys from the market, just in case we got to meet them) and the prospect of carrying Sadie up any more mountain sides was not exactly the most seductive option. ⁣ ⁣ So because we were staying at the same homestay, our packs were lighter but our legs were heavY. On the way we stopped at a little stall for a sugar cane, which was to be our morning tea treat when we arrived at Cho’s. We were skeptical, it was quite literally a log we had to carry for the entire hike 😂. ⁣ ⁣ Her house was beautiful, a mixed wood, brick barn style open home and we spent the day eating the most delicious Hmong food prepared by her husband, drinking maybe a little too much home made ‘happy water’ (the walk home was a little wobbly!) and teaching Cho’s children some classic games like musical chairs and statues. I never want to forget the moment all of us were dancing together to Icona Pop in Cho’s lounge room (I don’t care, I love it!), one of our favourite memories of the whole trip!
